Brisbane with a friend
Leaving Noosa behind, I drove south to Brisbane, where this road trip would come full circle. I met up with a friend I’d gotten to know on a previous trip, and together we spent the day wandering through the city. By evening, we settled into good food and drinks, which was the perfect way to wrap up both the day and my 'solo' trip.

Queensland Art Gallery
Started the day with a visit to the Queensland Art Gallery. Entry is free, and the collection is just the right size to explore without feeling rushed. The mix of modern works and Indigenous art felt really well balanced, and I liked how open and bright the spaces are. It’s one of those galleries where you can actually slow down and enjoy, rather than rush from room to room.

Streets beach & South Bank Parklands
Right along the river, South Bank Parklands is where Brisbane feels most alive. There’s Streets Beach, a man-made lagoon where people actually swim with the city skyline in the background. Walk through the rainforest path, passed the Nepalese Peace Pagoda, and just enjoy the mix of nature and urban vibes. The Wheel of Brisbane towers above it all.

Felons Brewery: drinks on the river in Brisbane
We got to Felons Brewery the fun way: by hopping on one of the little local ferries from Southbank (costs like half a dollar!). If you do it the hour before sunset, it’s honestly so nice. The sun reflects off all the different architectural buildings along the river, and the whole city just glows. The boat drops you right in front of Felons, and we grabbed a spot on the steps and ordered some beers. You can also order food if you want. By evening it starts getting lively, with people coming and going, which makes it even more fun and social.

Southside Restaurant: East-Asian cuisine underneath a train bridge
Together with a friend who lives in the city of Brisbane, I went to Southside in South Brisbane, and immediately understood why it’s such a local favourite. The restaurant spreads over three levels in this “ruined industrial temple” kind of space. My once-interior-architect heart completely melted for this space. The food is East-Asian with a proper love for Chinese tradition, and the wines are carefully chosen from both classic regions and some amazing Australian producers. Would definitely go again!
