Jordan
Mosques, mountains & Madaba
This day is all about religious places! On this day we will visit an beautiful Mosque, the only one in Jordan that allows tourists. Then continue the trip toward the Nebomountain, an holy place where Mozes once stood.

Magical Mosque
In the morning we visited a mosque, the King Abdullah I Mosque. Before we entered we received appropriate dresses and scarfs so you don’t need to bring anything, although I used my own scarf. Tip: I recommend bringing a big scarf to Jordan, any arab country for that matter. I used my scarf as a scarf, hijab, blanket and to sit on.

The promised land
We continued onwarts to the so called Nebomountain. From this mountain you get a beautiful view over the valley. On top of the mountain is also an old church, the Memorial Church of Moses, with beautiful mosaic. According to the Hebrew bible this mountain was the place where Mozes gazed over his promised land. This is the reason that this mountain is visited by jews, christians and muslims (and even atheists like me). The jews also believe the grave of Mozes is on this mountain.

Madaba, magic carpets&bedouin barbies
After visiting the Nebomountain we continued our roadtrip to Madaba, a place south of Amman. This town is great for shopping! You will find everything here; from Persian carpets to the bedouin barbie. This barbie is wearing the traditional clothes of the bedouins, the native nomads of the middle-east.

'Grand Canyon'
Next stop was the so called ‘Grand Canyon’ of Jordan. Coincidentally I had visited the real Grand Canyon just 6 months before the Jordan look-a-like. I have to say it comes pretty close to the real thing!

Petra by night
Then it was finally time to visit the famous Petra! This was definitely the highlight of our trip. Petra is the most well known attraction in Jordan. Petra is a historic town and on the Unesco world heritage list, belonging to the zeven new world wonders. Petra is mainly known for it’s tombs that have been excavated into the rocks. At night we visited Petra by night. As the name suggests we visited Petra at nighttime. To be more specific we visited the tomb Al Khazneh, also called ‘The Treasury’. This is the most famous landmark in Petra. The pathway up to the Treasury was beautifully illuminated with lanterns. At the Treasury there is a live performance with traditional bedouin music.
