Another morning in Petra
On our second day in Petra, we wanted to visit the Monastery through the backdoor trail. Our alarm clocks got set early again, as we arrived around 7:00 AM at Little Petra to get a jeep to the starting point of the trail. After a tour of roughly 20 minutes to the starting point and a walk of 40 minutes, we arrived as one of the early birds at the beautiful Monastery. We liked this one more than for example the treasury, as it was much calmer and easier to get close to beautiful sights of the cave building. We had some breakfast on a rock that had a good view on the Monastery. After our first coffee of the day we went downhill and walked back to the entrance through the main trail of Petra. It is possible to combine it better with the main part of Petra, but then you will have the disadvantage that Petra is already pretty crowded by the time you leave the Monastery. We really loved the way we had planned our 2 days and would recommend anyone to do the same. If you would have only one day, just go for the main trail early, walk to the highest point and go back down. Then take the challenging route to the Monastery and from there try to get a jeep tour back to Little Petra.

Backdooring the Monastery
It was super nice to arrive so early at the Monastery, to enjoy the beauty of the architecture in a calm setting, with some coffee and breakfast that we took along. There is an easily accessable small cave just across the Monastery which is a great spot for pictures or enjoying your breakfast.
