Hike near the Ebro river

To fully immerse ourselves in the nature of Las Merindades, we decided to go to the Tornos Canyon, a beautiful piece of nature in this Spanish region. Covered with a green blanket of fauna and flora, it is nothing compared to what you are used to with the Spanish nature in the south, with more desert-like landscapes. Under a nice sun, we put on our hiking boots for this 12 km and 300 meters altitude hike. The walk is dominated by the Ebro river that guides you between the cliffs and rocks to beautiful viewpoints. For those who are afraid of heights, some fears will have to be solved here. Some passages run along small mountain paths on the edge of a cliff, it is a walked path but keep in mind that some hiking experience and no fear of heights are problematic. The walk starts at the mini village of Tudanca de Ebro, where you can park the car along the water under the trees. You immediately enter an authentic setting with a small beach along the Ebro, where you can enjoy some refreshment after the walk. Besides a few locals, we were the only tourists who could enjoy this scene.

The hidden water of Pozo Azul

After the hike near the Ebro river, it was time to drive about 30 minutes to the next hidden gem: Pozo Azul. A small water source with crystal clear water. It’s a tiny walk to the source that covers a lot of mystery. Until now there are already 15 kilometers of underground caves discovered underneath the source. This makes it the longest underwater cave of the Iberian peninsula.Y ou can walk up on the rocks to get a view from above and see the blue water, or dip with your feet in the water at the tiny beach.

Orbaneja del Castillo, Spain

Orbaneja del Castillo

The last destination of this day is Orbaneja del Castillo. A small village that is unique because of its waterfall coming out of the village and the cliffs that surround it. One more funny thing about those cliffs, everyone sees two kissing camels in the rocks, can you spot it too?
