Rwanda
Congo Nile Trail - Day 1
Today we kicked off our first day on the Congo Nile Trail. I was pretty excited—and a bit nervous since I’m not an experienced biker and wasn’t sure what to expect. After breakfast, we headed to the bike rental shop where our guide was already waiting.

Congo Nile Trail - day 1
After breakfast, we headed to the bike rental shop where our guide was already waiting. We cycled 37 km to Kinunu, passing through small villages where life moved at its own pace. We were greeted by smiling children along the way, who eagerly tried out their English, while we did our best to respond in Kinyarwanda. The route offered stunning views of rolling hills, lush coffee and tea plantations, and, of course, beautiful Lake Kivu. There were no other tourists around—just us and the welcoming people of Rwanda.

Local lunch at a woman's house
For lunch, we stopped in a tiny village with about 20 houses, at the home of a lovely local woman who treated us to some delicious traditional dishes. Refueled and refreshed, we finished the second half of our ride. By 2 pm, we arrived at Kinunu Guesthouse, where I spent the afternoon relaxing on the terrace, soaking up the sun with a cup of African spiced tea.
