Congo Nile Trail - Day 2

After breakfast at 7 am, we set off for the second and final day of the trail at 8 am. Today’s ride was a longer one—62 km back to Rwiza Village in Kibuye. Along the way, we soaked in stunning landscapes and met some warm, friendly locals.

Midday

River crossing by foot

One memorable moment was crossing a river on foot—at first, it felt a bit intimidating, but it ended up being both fun and refreshingly cool for our feet.

Afternoon

Back in Rwiza Village in Kibuye

The latter part of the route was less scenic since we had to stick to the main road to make it back on time. By around 3 pm, we arrived at Rwiza Village, which instantly felt like coming home. After saying goodbye to our guide, we treated ourselves to a cold shower and some fresh juices while relaxing on our usual spot on the terrace. While our first evening there was calm and peaceful, this one was a bit less. It turns out that the next day was Friday—the day of the animal market just across the lake. From the hotel, we could hear pigs squealing as they were brought in from nearby villages. Despite the unexpected soundtrack, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rwiza Village and would happily return—just maybe not on a Thursday night.
