Gisenyi

After a restful night at Rwiza Village, we made our way to the nearest bus station to begin our journey to Gisenyi. From there we will start our Congo Nile Trail by bike.

Morning

Busride from Kibuye to Gisenyi

The hotel kindly arranged a motorcycle taxi to pick us up and drop us off at the station. There, we bought our bus tickets and hopped on for the 3-hour ride north. The journey offered beautiful views of rolling hills, tea plantations, and snapshots of everyday local life. It was a great experience being the only tourists on board—everyone was kind, quiet, and respectful.

Afternoon

Soaking in some beach vibes

Once in Gisenyi, we headed to the bike rental shop (Rwandan Adventures) to pick up our bikes for the Congo Nile Trail. I opted for an e-bike, while my partner—an experienced cyclist—chose a regular one. With our bikes sorted, we made a quick stop at a beach bar just across the rental place to soak in the lake breeze, some Afrobeats, and a well-earned cocktail. That evening, we grabbed dinner at Sagabay Restaurant before turning in early—our biking adventure would kick off at 8 AM the next morning.
