The top 5 travel trends in 2025
From extreme sports to slow travel and "wannabe adventurers": we expect people to travel in specific ways the coming year. So read further for a look into the near future, where we explain the top 5 expected travel trends in 2025.
1: going solo
Solo travel is booming as more people seek out transformative and meaningful experiences. They prefer these moments over just checking off their bucket list. We've seen a rise already in 2024 - particularly among women - and it's expected to keep on growing next year. While solo travel has long been popular with men, women are now feeling more empowered and secure to explore the world on their own.
On Daymaker, solo travelers are mostly interested in trips that evolve around (either) mountains, workations, city trips, and yoga.
2: adventure x luxury
Luxury, luxury, luxury. 25 to 39 year olds allocate much more budget than pre-covid on comfort. Whether it's in the form of a boutique hotel or a higher class on their flight or train: "bon vivants" are on the rise! Especially those that like to combine it with some adventurous activities. You might put "adventurous" between brackets though, because we're talking about a group of people that like to explore the authentic part of a country - yet preferably in good comfort. We call them: adventurers on socks. 😉 Destinations like Madeira (hiking), Kenya (wildlife spotting) or Morocco (glamping) are on the top-visit list of these travelers.
3: extreme sports
Bikepacking, hiking trips, marathon weekend getaways: buckle up for more of these in 2025. Each year, people tend to look for more (sporty) challenges. And why not take on that challenge in an inspiring decor? As travelers are shifting from bucketlist-scratching to experiencing as much meaningful moments as possible, they are also finding ways to make personal challenges a tad extra special. And that's where travel comes in! Prepare for even more cycling-, hiking- or any other extreme sports trips. We see a rising interest for these kind of holidays in Oman, the Alps and Italy.
4: generations on the go
2025 will be the year of intergenerational travel. Families are no longer waiting for special occasions to come together - they’re creating them. Picture grandparents bonding with grandchildren on cultural heritage trips, or parents and adult children exploring new cities side by side. These trips aren’t just about togetherness; they’re about shared experiences that span age groups and interests. On Daymaker, we see an increased search volume on "holiday home": bigger accommodations that can host grandparents, parents and the children during these trips. Oh, and whilst on holiday? These group like to book workshops, access to musea or simply stroll around in local villages.
5 - digital detox & slow travel
In 2025, travelers are embracing the art of slowing down. Forget jam-packed itineraries and over-planned trips. This is the year of the "Relaxers" (in Daymaker terms 🧘🏼♀️), who only decide on their itinerary at the beginning of each day. Slow travel thus is more than choosing for ecological options - which are on the rise and can't be ignored either. Within this topic, we also see a rising interest in (digital) detox retreats. Travelers have a growing desire to unplug and reconnect with the moment, and find these (amongst others) in retreats.
