An off-the-grid eco stay at Kalmdown cabin, Antwerp
Accommodation
€ 100 - 250
Each winter, when the days are cold and short, it's an unwritten tradition for my partner and I to go off-grid for a weekend somewhere close-by. This year, we stayed at the Kalmdown cabin, a tiny container cabin set in the domain of the Franciscans, amid fields and forest. The perfect place to deconnect (no wifi) and reconnect with nature - Power is fully supplied by solar, heating comes from a cosy wood stove, amenities are natural ingredients only and the Scandinavian dry toilet matches the sustainable mindset. Perfect for a solo or couple's retreat, you can relax by the fire, go on a walk in the surrounding nature, read a book and reconnect with yourself or your significant other. To facilitate the latter, there's plenty of fun conversation starter games scattered around the cabin, which can come in handy in case of a rainy afternoon.
It's a short 10min walk from the free parking, so be mindful not to bring too much. The cabin is also set in a public domain, and while there are no paths directly next to the cabin, you might spot a hiker in the distance every once in a while.
