Dag 1: Rotsachtige kust, zwarte stranden en natuurlijke zwembaden
We beginnen onze Lanzarote roadtrip aan de rotsachtige kust in het zuidwesten van het eiland. In de ochtend bezoek je Los Hervideros, een kort wandelpad door de rotsachtige kliffen ten zuiden van El Golfo. De verwoestende golven duwen het water omhoog in de gaten in deze rotsen en verrassen je met de kracht van de natuur. 's Middags zetten we onze roadtrip voort met een wandeling op het zwarte strand van El Golfo. Het groene meer op dit strand creëert een aanblik die bijna lijkt alsof het van een andere planeet komt. El Golfo heeft tal van zeevruchtenrestaurants om te lunchen terwijl je naar de golven kijkt die het strand op rollen. Na de lunch maak je een snelle stop bij de zoutpannen van Salinas de Janubio voor een prachtig uitzicht over de pastelgekleurde zoutvelden. Na een korte rit - voornamelijk over hobbelige grindwegen - eindig je bij een van de mooiste natuurlijke zwembaden die we ooit hebben gezien. Breng de late namiddag door op deze geweldige plek. Maar let op je stappen, dit is de thuisbasis van kleine vissen en krabben. Neem wat biertjes en snacks mee en kijk naar de zonsondergang vanaf een van de rotsen terwijl je je tenen in het water dompelt.

Viewpoint over black beach with a spooky green lake
From the parking spot you hike 5 minutes to 'El Mirador del Charco de los Clicos'. Which means viewpoint over the lake of the "clicos", locally known seafood. But it is the colorful contrasts of the black beach, popping green lake and clear blue sea that attracts the eye.

Seafood heaven in El Golfo
El Golfo is known for its black beach with green lake called Charco de los Clicos. But it is also known as one of the best towns in Lanzarote to eat seafood. The town has many restaurants facing the ocean and combining excellent fish dishes and seafood platters with vistas over the rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

Make a quick stop along your little roadtrip along the South West part of the island at the salt flats of Salinas de Janubio. These are the largest salt flats of the Canarian Islands and from above the different fields create a pallet of differents shades of pastel colors.

Catching sunset in a natural pool
This is probably one of our favorite places in whole Lanzarote! We found it on Google Maps and simply drove around until we found a dirt road that leaded towards this part of the coast. After founding ourselves a way down the rocks, we had this natural pool almost the entire afternoon to ourselves. The water is of course a bit cold, and there are some small crabs. But enjoying the sun setting down while swimming and dipping your toes in this natural pool will be definitely be in your top 3 of this roadtrip!
