Admire Hawa Mahal

Once you have arrived in Jaipur and dropped off your luggage at the hotel, head straight to Hawa Mahal. Hawa Mahal, which literally translates into the Palace of Winds, is the symbol of Jaipur's architectural excellence. This magnificent five-story palace, with its distinctive pink facade and honeycomb windows, is used as the cover photo for thousands of posters, postcards, and magazines. With its almost 1000 small windows, it was used to provide cool air flow to the castle. But the main purpose was to allow royal ladies to observe everyday life in the street below without being seen. Fun fact: a lot of people think that Hawa Mahal is the front of the palace, but it’s actually the back!

Visit the Bihariji Temple

Next, we take you on a little spiritual experience by visiting Bihariji Temple, a sacred Hindu place that not a lot of people visit. Located in the old city of Amer, this temple is renowned for its circular dome with an open design. It’s so cool to stand inside and look up to the sky! Depending on the position of the sun you can take really cool pictures here. What we also really liked was that it was so well preserved! The place was clean and everything was still intact. Amazing! Even if you’re not in a spiritual mood or the sun doesn’t allow you to take the best pictures, the Bihariji Temple is still a cool place to spend a few minutes.

Take some pictures at Panna Meena ka Kund

Just across the street from Bihariji Temple you will find Panna Meena ka Kund, an ancient stepwell tucked away in the city. We were absolutely stunned when we first saw this place. It is so well made, and also so well maintained! The symmetry of the steps and geometrical designs are something we’ve never seen before ;-). The fun thing is that, even though piped water exists now, this stepwell is still fully operational. It can be used in the same fashion as they did all those centuries ago. Back then, people came here to collect water, chit chat with friends, or travelers used this place to get some rest. You can take some amazing pictures here, it’s a photographer’s paradise!

Explore the majestic Amer Fort

Spend the rest of the day exploring Amer Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It boasts stunning architecture, tons of marble work, and -of course- panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. There are four courtyards, each more stunning than its predecessor. Other than having amazing courtyards and gardens, you can explore maze-like passages, visit stunning palaces, or learn more about the lives of the royals that used to live here. Make sure to attend the sound and light show at 6:30 PM as well! You'll witness a liveshow that consists of interesting narration and stunning visual effects. The show is about the history and legends of this magnificent fortress throughout the years in a fun but interesting way.
