For travellers seeking a genuine connection to Albanian culture and everyday life, Traditional Guesthouse Përmet offers an experience that’s both heartfelt and deeply rooted in place. Tucked away in the hills above Përmet, this family-run guesthouse is more than just a place to sleep—it’s a warm invitation into local life.
We stayed here for two nights during our road trip through Albania, and it quickly felt like home. The guesthouse is lovingly run by a family trio: the parents, who greet you with quiet warmth, prepare generous home-cooked meals using vegetables from their own garden and treat you like long-lost relatives; and their son, who lives next door and helps bridge the language gap. While his parents speak little English, communication flowed easily—with gestures, good humor, and the kind of human connection that needs no translation.
Reaching the guesthouse is part of the adventure. The final stretch is an unpaved mountain road, not ideal for standard vehicles. We’d read about it beforehand and, like many travellers, assumed it would be manageable. After one nerve-rattling drive up and down, we gratefully accepted the family’s offer to handle the transfers themselves—an option we’d recommend from the outset.
But once you arrive, the journey fades into the background. The views are wide and uninterrupted, the air is still, and time seems to slow. In this peaceful corner of the Albanian countryside, it’s easy to settle in—and hard to say goodbye.
