Banff National Park: Moraine Lake and Lake Louise
Get ready to see the two most famous and most beautiful lakes in Canada: Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. Take your time to explore the lakes and nearby trails. You won't regret!
Mouraine Lake
You can't drive to Moraine Lake with your own car any more. You have to travel to the Lake Louise car park and then take the shuttle to Moraine Lake. Be aware that you have to make a reservation for the shuttle beforehand! We took an early bus at Banff to get to the car park at Lake Louise, so we were at Lake Moraine at 9 a.m. I would definitely recommend this as there are few people during that time of the day. The lake itself is breathtaking. You can walk up the rock pile to enjoy the view over the lake, or explore the area further with trails. There is also a small café where you can enjoy some breakfast and take a coffee on the go. There is also a gift shop and if you want, you can kayak on the lake.
Take the shuttle back to Lake Louise's car park.
Lake Louise
Lake Louise is the most famous of all lakes in West-Canada and therefore, it's also a busy spot. However, it's definitely worth the visit! Most tourist stay at the beginning of the lake, while there is so much more to explore. You can easily walk to the back of the lake, where different hiking trails start.
Start the the Plain of Six Glaciers Trail at the end of the Lake Louise Lakeshore trail.
Plain of Six Glaciers Trail & Lake Agnes Teahouse
The Plain of Six Glaciers Trail is a moderate 14,64km hike, that gives you a unique view of Lake Louise and brings you to the iconic Plain of Six Glaciers Teahouse. The Teahouse offers different kinds of tea and a yummy lunch. The people working there are always up to informing you about the teahouse, its history and how they work. After visiting the Teahouse, we went to the Plain of Six Glaciers Trail's viewpoint. Be aware that the last part of the path is not maintained, so, you have to be careful and wear good hiking shoes. After that, we walked to Lake Agnes Teahouse before we went back to the Lake Louise car park to take the bus back to Banff.
