In Kattevennen, one of the six gateways to Hoge Kempen National Park, you'll find a fun and educational trail: the Planets Walk. This 2.5 km hike winds through the woods near Genk and offers a playful introduction to space and our solar system. We found the starting point thanks to the small map we received at the Cosmodrome, fittingly marked by an impressive rocket. With the push of a button, our space adventure began!
Along the trail, you'll find informational signs filled with fascinating facts about the universe and cosmic mysteries. At the furthest point of the trail, you'll reach a particularly photogenic installation of the solar system. This spot is designed with kids in mind, featuring a hatch you can crawl through to explore different corners of the solar system from the inside. It’s a perfect spot for kids to play a bit!
The Planets Walk is perfect for families: it’s short enough to keep little ones engaged, yet filled with interesting discoveries that appeal to older kids too. It’s also a great complement to a visit to the Cosmodrome, where you can dive even deeper into the wonders of the universe.
