This trip was about the expedition to Aconcagua (6,961 m), the highest peak in Americas and one of the Seven Summits. Known for its extreme temperatures and fierce winds, the mountain is as challenging as it is breathtaking, with the vast landscapes of the Andes stretching endlessly around you.
I went in January 2023, right in the middle of the two-month weather window when climbers from around the world gather to attempt the summit. I definitely recommend the 360 Route where you use different paths to ascend and return, compared to the Normal Route, slightly shorter but using the same paths and much more crowded. The approach itself is an adventure: starting from Mendoza, a vibrant city famous for its Malbec wines, you quickly trade vineyards and sunshine for thin air, steep slopes, and towering glaciers.
The expedition demands endurance and respect for the mountain, but every step rewards you with emotive views of high Andean valleys, ridges lost in the clouds, and the sheer grandeur of South America’s roof. A demanding but unforgettable journey - raw, wild, and truly monumental.
