From Playa del Carmen to Holbox
Off to one of my favourite islands of the world: Holbox [Holbosh]
Morning at Playa del Carmen
° Watch the sunrise at the beach of Playa del Carmen (we were jetlagged and awake at 4 AM) ° Breakfast at our rooftop terrace We bought some nice croissants at a French bakery and enjoyed them at our rooftop terrace together with a coffee and the sound of tropical birds.
Drive (approximately 1h45) from Playa del Carmen to Chiquilá
Take the ferry from Chiquilá to Holbox
° Take the ferry There are 2 ferry companies and they are equally good, so just take the one that fits your schedule. You might want to consider booking in advance (in high season). Enjoy the views during the 20 minutes ferry trip.
Settle down and enjoy the island vibes of Isla Holbox
° Take a golf cart to bring you to your hotel/stay Golf carts are the taxis of Holbox and (apart from a few motorcycles) the only motorized vehicles on the island. Most hotels/stays are on the other side of the island. Walking for a long distance with your luggage is not very convenient, so enjoy this ride as your first activity to discover the island. Note that the roads of Holbox are sandy/dusty and sometimes even completely flooded. When we were there, it was dry season so luckily the streets were not flooded. ° Settle down in the hotel We stayed at Spirit Hotel Holbox and loved it! We had a nice room with balcony with sea view, and even from our shower & toilet we had sea view! The bed was very comfortable, staff was very friendly and the restaurant (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) was great. ° Sushi dinner at the hotel restaurant
