Daytrip to Armona Island

You always see the famous rocky coastline of the Algarve region in travel guides, but only a few tell you about the paradise-like islands close to the border with Spain in the South-East. However, this is a must-go according to me. Hop on the ferry in Olhão (€2,4 per person one-way) and 20 minutes later, you’ll find yourself in paradise. There are different islands to choose from, and my choice went to the island of Armona. It has a tiny village, you can walk along the coastline for hours and there are a handful of authentic restaurants. Perfect for a day out to soak in the sunshine! 🌞 nice to know: this is where the locals go for a day out. Always a good sign.

Take your rental car from Olhão to Albufeira (about 1 hour).

Fine dining in a beach shack

Foodies, this is one for you! Set on a deserted beach - on the property of a five star hotel - you can have lunch or dinner (I’d always recommend dinner in this place here because of the sunset) at ‘Vila Joya Sea’. The setting of my dreams. Have an aperitif in the lounge seats that look out on the sea and head to a bar seat afterwards. That way you can see how the experienced chefs prepare several Japanese - South American sharing dishes. A feast for your tastebuds 🙏🏼 If you love food like me, go for the full experience and let them surprise you with a mixed menu. I didn’t regret one dish! 😉
