We were welcomed at Makasutu Magic Forest by two local musicians, with beautiful singing and traditional music. When you share your name, they create a unique song just for you—a deeply personal and memorable gesture. 🌳🎶
Our journey through the impressive nature reserve began with a hike through the Makasutu Forest. Along the way, our guide taught us about the healing powers of various trees, herbal teas made from leaves, and practical tips like using leaf sap as natural glue. 🌱 We weren’t alone—baboons regularly crossed our path, calm and unafraid of human presence. The forest is called "magic" not only because of the healing flora but also due to local legends: it is said that a king once lived there and is now buried in the forest.
After our walk, we boarded a small boat that took us along the peaceful Mandina River, offering us a different perspective of the lush forest. 🛶 Our guide explained how oysters grow in the mangroves and pointed out various bird species. To complete the experience, we climbed the watchtower, where we were rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Gambia’s natural beauty. 💚
At the end we learned how to climb a palmtree and even got to taste palmtree juice!
