Istanbul is a city that overwhelms in the best possible way. With its rich layers of architecture, color, culture, and daily chaos, it’s a photographer’s dream. I spent a long weekend wandering through its maze-like streets, my camera always within reach. Here are a few personal highlights: 📍 Galata Bridge at sunset endless lines of fishermen side by side, locals enjoying meals under the bridge with views over the water, and countless tourist boats drifting by. 🐈 The 1001 cats of Istanbul Truly everywhere, lounging on rooftops, wandering through shops, being fed by locals and tourists. They seem to own the city, and I didn’t mind one bit. 🕌 Hagia Sophia A stunning building, but manage your expectations. Access to the main floor is restricted unless you're there for prayer. Upstairs, the view is more distant and touching the walls is not allowed. Still worth visiting! I recommend buying tickets online to skip the long line, and don’t forget to cover your shoulders and hair. 🕌 Blue Mosque Beautiful from the outside and just as impressive in the inner courtyard, if you go at the right time (less people during sunset). 🍴 Seven Hills Restaurant Yes, it’s that Instagram-famous rooftop. But honestly? Worth it. Great mezze, a view over the Hagia Sophia, and the optional experience of feeding seagulls for that one shot. It’s also a fun place to people-watch. 🛍️ The Bazaars From the Grand Bazaar to the Egyptian Bazaar, they are colorful, chaotic, and full of life. Easy to get lost in the best way. 💧 Basilica Cistern Underground magic. The still water creates stunning reflections—quiet, moody, perfect for photography. 🎨 Colorful Balat A neighborhood with rainbow stairs (very touristy!), colored facades, and that authentic old-Istanbul feel. 🌳 Gülhane Park in the middle of it all Just when the chaos gets overwhelming, you stumble upon a quiet green oasis. Istanbul always finds a way to surprise. If you're into photography and culture (and cats), put Istanbul on your list. My photos are all shot on Fujifilm GFX100RF | Fujinon 35mm f/4.
