The second day in Vienna: the wine train and a fancy dinner

The second day we started with a relaxed breakfast on a sunny terrace and a bit of shopping. In the afternoon we took the 'wine train' through the 'Vienna Woods' and past ancient farmhouses and through picturesque wine growing towns. We ended the day with a fancy dinner at Chez Bernard.

Café Europa is a regular café of the Viennese scene and one of the most popular "homes away from home" in the 7th district of Vienna. This place is not necessarily chic, but it is cozy and it has a terrace in the sun! Hot food is served until 4.00 am!

Take the wine train to the top of the Kahlenberg

Go on a journey of discovery through Vienna's idyllic wine growing areas on board of the a train. The ride takes passengers through picturesque wine towns and past wonderful vineyards. Step off on its route and go have a wine in one of the vineyards while enjoying the unique view of the city! Take the train all the way to the top of the Kahlenberg for a panoramic view over Vienna. From the U4 station Heiligenstadt – the departure and arrival station – the tour leads over the Kahlenberg and back again to the U4 station Heiligenstadt. Do you like hiking? You can skip the train and walk up this hill. You have to pay for the train in cash before getting on.

Fancy dinner at Chez Bernard

One evening we went for a more fancy dinner at Chez Bernard. Chez Bernard, the restaurant, is situated in a hotel, called Motto. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with an eye for detail. Even the toilet was an absolute experience! The food was extraordinary and the service was the cherry on the cake. I tried the roasted sturgeon with mashed potatoes. The best mashed potatoes ever, wauw so creamy! We finished off with a dessert, which I recommend, and some cocktails. And don't hold back on those cocktails! The espresso martini was my favorite! Arrived too early or just in for a drink before going to the restaurant? The hotel also has a rooftop bar with a lovely view over the beautiful city of Vienna!
