Angkor Wat: a must-visit in Siem Reap

When you're in Siem Reap, Cambodia, a visit to Angkor Wat is a must! Angkor Wat is not only the largest religious monument in the world, spanning 162.6 hectares, but it's also incredibly captivating. You could easily spend days exploring its temples. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992, the temples underwent extensive restoration in the 20th century. To reach Angkor Wat from Siem Reap, the most convenient options are by guided tuktuk, scooter rental, or bicycle. Tickets are available at a central point or through organized tours, and you'll need to show them at various checkpoints. You can opt for a day pass (around 35 euros) or multi-day passes valid for three or seven days. Although Angkor Wat is the most expansive and popular temple in the complex, it's quieter to explore between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., despite the intense midday heat. Sunrise and sunset, however, attract larger crowds. Personally, I purchased a 24-hour ticket, allowing me to witness the sunset at Angkor Wat and join a guided tour for the sunrise the next day. We then toured the adjacent famous temples by tuktuk, concluding the excursion by early afternoon to avoid the peak heat of nearly 40 degrees Celsius. Remember, when visiting such culturally rich destinations, dress respectfully and appropriately!
