Steinau an der Straße is a picturesque town where the story of the Brothers Grimm truly begins. This is where Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm spent much of their childhood, and where their imagination took root. Today, it marks the start of Germany’s famed Fairy Tale Route.
A walk through Steinau feels like stepping into a time capsule. Beautiful half-timbered houses line the cobbled streets. At the heart of it all is the Brothers Grimm House, now a museum located in their former family home. It brings their world to life with personal stories, interactive exhibits, and a glimpse into the origins of their fairy tales. Despite its small size, Steinau has a magical atmosphere which makes it worth a visit.
