Day 3: Theth to Berat
Today you’ll drive from Theth to Berat, which takes about 5 hours. Don’t worry, we’ve included a great stop along the way to break up the drive.

Quick stop in Kruje
After about 3.5 hours on the road, you’ll reach Kruje, a small but charming mountain town. Walk through the Old Bazaar to browse handmade souvenirs, and visit Kruje Castle and the Skanderbeg Museum to learn more about Albania’s history. For lunch, don’t miss Akullore Kruja. They serve the best byrek we had in Albania (a flaky pastry with savory fillings). Our favorite was the one with tomato and onion, but the spinach one is delicious as well.

Explore the Gorica neighborhood
Once you arrive in Berat, check in at your hotel and start exploring. Begin with the Gorica neighborhood, one of the oldest parts of the city. Walk across the Gorica Bridge, visit the Church of Saint Spiridon, and take your time wandering the cobbled streets. With its Ottoman houses and hillside views, it really feels like stepping back in time.

Dinner at Eni Traditional Food Berat
For dinner, head to Eni Traditional Food Berat. The food is local, affordable, and very tasty. We recommend the stuffed eggplant, it was one of our favorite dishes in Albania. We paid around € 20 for two mains and half a liter of wine. Bonus: they gave us free dessert too!
