Italy

Crossing from east to west

Today we cross the island from east to west. Via the Costa Paradiso in the north we leave the Olbia region and head over to Alghero. Along the way we stop for a great short hike and relaxing time at Spiaggia Li Cossi. At night we enjoyed a magical sunset in Alghero. Strolling along the medieval city walls and tasting the Italian live with some aperitivo & bruschettas.

Spiaggia Li Cossi

This beach is located on the Costa Paradiso - the north coast of Sardinia. We made it our stop while crossing the island from east to west. You'll park at a little harbor after which a little hike of 15 mins starts towards the beach. The route is well preserved and simply gorgeous. The beach is not to crowded (in shoulder season) and even has a shack that sells drinks and rents sunbeds (starting from June). Behind the beach is a dramatic gorge with a stream almost reaching the sea. It feels like a beach packed between a mini version of the Grand Canyon and the Caribbean sea.

Sunset stroll & aperitivo in Alghero

Alghero is the largest city on the northwestern tip of Sardinia. It is an interesting mix of Italian flavour and Catalan heritage. The city once was a Catalan colony in medieval times. This can still be seen in the city's architecture, the local dialect and the many Catalan style dishes on the menu of each restaurant. We went for a lovely sunset stroll along the medieval city walls overlooking the harbor and Alghero Bay with Capo Caccio and Rifugio Di Mare on the other side. All with a spectacular sunset as a backdrop.
