South Africa
Hello, garden route!
From Cape Town to the famous Garden Route with our rental car. First stop: the unbeatable De Hoop Nature Reserve, with its luxury boutique hotel Morukuru Beach Lodge. The biggest surprise of the trip.

Hit the Garden Route!
From Cape Town, set direction to the famous Garden Route. It's a coastline of about 300 kilometres. We drove it from Cape Town all the way up Port Elizabeth, with several stops. First one: De Hoop Nature Reserve.
Drive towards De Hoop Nature Reserve now. The final 1,5 hours is a VERY bad road, yet that has a lot of charm. We crossed literally no one else here!

Check-in at Morukuru Beach Lodge
The stay and location that surprised us most: De Hoop Nature Reserve. We found this place very last-minute while just zooming in and out in Google Maps. It turned out to be the most special part of our trip. De Hoop is a very "pure" nature reserve with kilometres of dunes and grasslands. There's a lot of wildlife to be found as well. In whale season, it's even one of the world's best places to spot these creatures. Best thing about it? The ultimate luxury boutique resort Morukuru Beach Lodge. A piece of heaven on earth with only about 6 rooms. Booking a room here includes your stay, 3 fine meals a day and 2 guided activities a day. It's quite expensive, so we only stayed one night. Yet it was more than we could dream of. Check out the pictures and the blog I wrote about it on Chapeau Magazine.
