Hike to Alplisee and Schwellisee

Hiking to Schwellisee and Alplisee in Arosa is a scenic adventure through stunning alpine landscapes. The trail leads past lush meadows and rugged terrain, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Schwellisee is a serene, picturesque lake, ideal for a peaceful rest or a refreshing dip, although when we passed along, it was obviously too cold :p The lake was once completely surrounded by pine trees but the Walser people cleared the forest. Alplisee, a bit further along, is equally enchanting, known for its clear waters and tranquil setting. Both lakes provide a perfect backdrop for nature photography and a chance to experience the serene beauty of the Arosa region. In winter, only Schwellisee is accessible via winter hiking path.

Extra hike to Alteinwasserfall

We also continued to a north-south oriented valley for a visit to the Alteiner Wasserfall. The lower waterfall in the river Alteinbach is called the Alteiner Wasserfall but upstream, there is a second waterfall without an official name. The hike from Arosa is nice and pleasant. It is also possible to walk further up to the base of the biggest drop. The Alteiner Wasserfall has a total height of 240 meter dropping down over multiple stages. The biggest single drop at the upper part of the Alteiner Wasserfall has a height of appr. 60 meter.

Arosa Untersee - Obersee

When you are in Arosa, you cannot miss a visit to the Obersee and Untersee, two picturesque lakes, each offering unique experiences. Obersee, the upper lake, is known for its clear waters and tranquil surroundings, making it ideal for a relaxing walk or a peaceful picnic. Untersee, the lower lake, is smaller but equally charming, with opportunities for scenic strolls, wildlife observation and outdoor activities such as swimming. Both lakes were formed by glacial activity, which carved out their basins over millennia. Eventually, we ended our amazing weekend with an Aperol Spritz in Provisorium13. A very nice bar along the Obersee. Recommended :)
