Chasing waterfalls in Wells Gray Provincial Park
With over 40 waterfalls, Wells Gray Provincial Park is also known as Waterfall Park. Discover three of its most impressive falls and drive to Valemount where you'll do a scenic hike and spend the night.
Helmcken falls
Helmcken Falls is situated close to the main road and easy to reach after a short walk. This waterfall plunges 141 metres into the canyon below, making it the fourth-highest waterfall in Canada.
Dawson Falls
Driving further along Clearwater Valley Road, you'll find Dawson Falls. After a 10-minute hike through a primaeval forest, you arrive at the terraced waterfall that cascades over ancient lava beds.
Spahats Creek Falls
An easy walk through a cedar forest leads from the car park to Spahats Creek Falls. From the viewing platform, watch the waterfall plunge 80 metres into the river below.
Driving to Valemount
Hike to Kinney Lake
Valemount is the ideal stopover before Jasper National Park and it gives you the opportunity to explore Mount Robson Provincial Park. Mount Robson is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies and the park is famous for the Kinney Lake Trail (9km) and Berg Lake Trail (38km). We opted for the Kinney Lake Trail, a hike along the river to Kinney Lake and back. The lake has a beautiful blue colour and Mount Robson is in sight all the time.
