Malta
Day trip to Gozo
Hike the Gozo Coastal Walk following the glistening sea and atop mighty cliffs and visit the main city of Victoria.

Take the Gozo Highspeed ferry from Valetta to Mgarr Harbour (€7.5 one-way)

Hike the Gozo coastal walk
The Gozo Coastal walk is a 55 km hike that hugs the shore of Gozo, one of the three islands that together form Malta. You can divide the entire length of the trail in four sections, and if you have only one day, I recommend completing the Southern trail from Mgarr Harbour to the town of Xlendi (about 16km). The trail starts at the end of the parking area on top of a small hill behind the ferry terminal. Don't forget to bring snacks, water and your swimming gear! Highlights along the way: - Xatt l-Aħmar Salt Pans (locals still use them to collect natural salt to this day) - Mġarr ix-Xini Bay - Ta' Ċenċ Cliffs (great spot for a picnic lunch) - Sanap Cliffs
Take the local bus from Xlendi to Victoria (€2)

Victoria sightseeing
All local buses in Gozo take you past Victoria, the main city on the island, so you might as well take some time for sightseeing, visit a museum or enjoy a drink on one of the many terraces.
Take the local bus from Victoria to Mgarr Harbour (€2)
Take the Gozo Channel ferry to Cirkewwa (€4,65)
Take a taxi from Cirkewwa to Birgu (€30)

Dinner at d Centre
Unfortunately the Gozo Highspeed ferry back to Valletta got cancelled due to a big swell, so the way home was quite a bit longer (and more expensive) than expected. I ended the long day at D Centre restaurant where I treated myself to a lobster pasta and a nice glass of wine. Cosy interior, comfort food and very attentive service.
