Watervallen en tempels in Kanchanaburi
Vandaag verken je de Erawan-watervallen, Wat Tham Suea, Wat Ban Tham en de JJ Night Market.
Start your day at Erawan Falls, the prettiest falls of Thailand
Start your day at Erawan Falls, nestled within the picturesque Erawan National Park. With its seven tiers of stunning turquoise pools, Erawan Falls is the perfect place to relax. Kick off your adventure at the visitor center, where you can ease into the cool waters of the first pool and get ready for a unique fish spa experience. Once you leave the visitor center, prepare for some moderate uphill climbs, but also more beautiful pools. All of them are worth visiting, but our favorites were Wang Nam Tok (second fall), Pha Nam Tok (third fall), and Buar Mai Long (fifth fall). If you are into hiking and exercise, we recommend going up all the way to the seventh floor! If chilling and relaxing is more your thing, don’t bother climbing up after pool 5. Entry to the park is 300 baht per person (approximately € 8), so worth it for a morning well spent!
Gordel om, want de volgende rit duurt iets meer dan een uur.
Explore Wat Tham Suea, also known as the ‘Tiger Cave Temple’
Time for your first cultural visit of the day: Wat Tham Suea, also known as the 'Tiger Cave Temple'. This beautiful temple, perched atop a hill overlooking Kanchanaburi, is most famous for its incredible Buddha statue. This awe-inspiring 18-meter-high Buddha Image is the largest in Kanchanaburi, really impressive to stand in front of it. But, that’s not all that you can see at the top! Look around to admire the sprawling rice fields and meandering river below, a scene straight out of a fairy tale. The walk around this place is very peaceful, too, with some smaller temples and buildings that you can admire. Don’t forget to cover your shoulders and knees when visiting!
Minder dan 10 minuten brengt je naar je volgende plek van de dag.
Climb to the top of Wat Ban Tham, also known as the ‘Dragon Head Cave Temple’
Next up: Wat Ban Tham, also known as the ‘Dragon Head Cave Temple’. This unique temple requires some effort from its visitors in order to access the main cave. Prepare for an exhilarating climb of over 700 steps to reach the towering entrance, where you'll be greeted by the dragon's mouth. Walk in to discover the beautiful surprises the main cave has to offer. Let us tell you, it is really special! Yes, the climb up is really exhausting, but the breathtaking views and mystical ambiance make it a journey well worth undertaking.
Slechts 20 minuten naar de laatste stop van de dag!
End your day at the JJ Night Market
The JJ Night Market is not the biggest or fanciest market in Thailand, but still one of our favorites just because it’s still so authentic here. Most signs are only available in Thai, and most vendors only know a handful of English words. It makes the whole experience so much fun! The ambience that surrounds this place is really cool too, which makes strolling around the array of food and souvenir stalls such an experience! We were really hungry when we visited JJ Night Market, so we ordered a lot of food. ;-) Our favorites? The spring rolls, eel sushi, freshly grilled chicken skewers and Thai crispy pancakes. Oh, and since this isn’t a night market catered to tourists, it is pretty cheap here. We only paid € 10 for all food and drinks for the both of us!
