The heart of the town sits right by the sea, boasting a picturesque fishing harbor adorned with colorful boats that contrast beautifully with the white and cream-colored plaster on the old buildings along the quay. This is also where local restaurants receive their daily supply of fresh fish. Visiting the harbor at the right time of day allows you to experience the true Southern Italian maritime life, as fish is a prized commodity in Monopoli, and the ambiance around the harbor remains entirely authentic. No mass tourism like that found on the beaches of the more southern Salento during the summer. Here, the authenticity of true Puglia still reigns supreme. Explore the picturesque alleys in search of a charming coffee bar and savor a delightful espresso. As you wander through the streets, you may encounter the local dog, who revels in the Italian atmosphere amidst the streets every day.
