Een dag in Malakka
Neem een extra dag om naar Malakka te reizen. We hebben de dag doorgebracht in Malakka, een stad die al een paar jaar een UNESCO-werelderfgoedlocatie is, en het is gemakkelijk te zien waarom. De stad zit vol charmante muurschilderingen, waarvan er veel langs de rivier te vinden zijn die door de stad stroomt. Er zijn ook sterke Nederlandse en Chinese invloeden, waardoor Malakka een fascinerende mix van verschillende culturen is. We besloten de stad te voet te verkennen in plaats van een riviercruise te maken, wat een budgetvriendelijkere optie was. Onze wandeling begon bij de Christ Church. Na een snelle stop om een plek te vinden om te eten, gingen we verder naar de oudste Chinese tempel in Maleisië, de Cheng Hoon Teng-tempel. Van daaruit dwaalden we door straten vol muurschilderingen, passeerden we het orang-oetan-huis en bereikten we de rivier. Terwijl we langs de rivier liepen, zagen we een enorme varaan, veel groter dan de exemplaren die we eerder hadden gezien, waarschijnlijk zelfs groter dan de meeste mensen. Vervolgens namen we een Grab naar Masjid Selat Melaka, een moskee prachtig gelegen aan de oceaan, met een prachtig uitzicht. Het was een hete dag en we waren allemaal klaar voor een pauze in het appartement voordat we op pad gingen voor een avondwandeling. We genoten van een maaltijd en bezochten de levendige kraampjes op Jonker Street. De dag eindigde met voorbereidingen voor de reis die voor ons lag.
