Sunrise at Miradouro da Serra do Cume
This Miradouro or viewpoint offers amazing views over the lush landscape that Terceira is known for. You can come here at either sunrise or sunset depending on your fancy. Getting here requires a car, but do not worry as the roads are all paved!
Hike down a vulcano in Algar do Carvão
Algar do Carvão is one of the few accessible magma chambers in the world. It was formed over 2000 years ago and gives of distinct Jurassic Park vibes. As you walk down the ancient lava tube make sure to look up and see the vibrant green mos that carpets the top of the tunnel.

Grab lunch at Quinta do Martelo
Quinta do Martelo is celebrated for its authentic preservation of Azorean culture and heritage. On site, you will find a place to stay, a restaurant, an organic garden, and a working farm. We enjoyed a delicious locally sourced meal and then meandered down to the first floor of the restaurant to take a peek at the traditional crafts laid out. This was without a doubt one of my favorite meals during our trip to Terceira.

Go swimming in the natural pools at Biscoitos on the Northern Coast
The natural pools in Biscoitos, Terceira, are made up of volcanic rock formations and filled with crystal-clear Atlantic waters. These pools are naturally sheltered by lava rock making them a truly unique swimming experience. Make sure to double check with locals if/when you go for a swim because high tide and/or rough seas can cause dangerous swimming conditions.

Have a romantic dinner in Angra do Heroismo
Angra do Heroismo is the capital of Terceira and the largest city. You could easily spend a day walking around the town and exploring the many cobblestoned alleys and colorful churches. Should the weather not be great for swimming in Biscoitos, simply spend a couple of hours strolling around town. Grab dinner in Taberna do Teatro, QB Restaurant or Tasca das Tias. Each offers vegetarian options as well as a host of typical local dishes using locally sourced ingrediënts.
