Un week-end d'été à Louvain
L'année dernière en juillet, nous sommes partis en week-end à Louvain. Pendant le week-end, nous avons profité de nombreuses festivités de Het Groot Verlof, mangé dans de charmants restaurants et visité les points forts de Louvain comme le musée M, le jardin des plantes et le célèbre hôtel de ville. Celebrate Het Groot Verlof
Every year during the summer months “Het Groot Verlof” takes place in Leuven, which means that there are festivities in the city every weekend. We went to the festivities of ”Beleuvenissen” where there is live music on several squares in the city. We especially loved the setting of Club Vismarkt, this is a square in the centre of Leuven that is transformed into a club. If you want to visit Leuven, definitely check out if it is possible to combine your visit with “Het Groot Verlof”.
Visit Museum M
Museum M is located in the historic centre of Leuven and showcases a mix of old and contemporary art. In addition, the museum introduces visitors to temporary exhibitions. When we visited the museum, I especially loved the exhibition of Leen Voet. This collection consisted of a lot of colorful art.

Wander around de Kruidtuin
De Kruidtuin is also known as the Botanical Garden of Leuven and is a historical and picturesque garden located in the heart of Leuven, Belgium. The garden is a nice place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city centre and hosts a wide variety of plants, including medicinal herbs, ornamental plants, trees, shrubs, and exotic species. Fun fact: De Kruidtuin is the oldest botanical garden in Belgium.
Drink some coffee
You can get delicious coffee at the cozy coffee shop Onan Coffee and Tea in the Parijsstraat or at Madmum coffee. Madmum coffee can be found at several locations in the city and we went to Madmum Coffee Roasters & Bar in the Tiensestraat.
Enjoy the food and drinks
My favourite restaurant in Leuven was SUD SUD Bistro. Here they serce delicious food to share of the Mediterranean cuisine. Another place I can recommend for dinner/ food is Würst. Here they serve haute dogs: hot dogs, but more luxurious and with all kinds of different toppings. For cocktails we went to Cuore Italiano and Bar Nine. Bar Nine is located on the Oude Markt in a beautiful historic building.
Shop till you drop!
Leuven is a great place to shop! Especially in Mechelsestraat and Diestsestraat you will find many nice shops. We ourselves had a good time at the shops Wear and Jüttu.
