Hiking to the largest tree on the island

Cathedral Grove, located within MacMillian Park, is a must-stop on the way to Victoria. The two hiking trails take about 45 minutes to complete. The North Old Growth Trail is a 1.2 km boardwalk trail along vast groves of ancient cedar trees. If you only want to do one of the two hikes, opt for the South Big Tree and Living Forest Trail. This is a 1 km dirt trail with Douglas fir trees between 300 and 800 years old. Follow the "Big Tree Trail" signs to the largest Douglas fir tree, one that stands higher than the Tower of Pisa!

Scenic lunch at Cameron Lake

An ideal spot for a picnic! On a bright day, the reflections of the mountains are mesmerising. You can even take a swim if you dare to face the cold water. Bears are often sighted here, so keep your eyes peeled.
