uitwaaien Praia do Amado
Praia do Amado – wild and impressive We headed to Praia do Amado on a day with strong winds and a cloudy sky – exactly what we were looking for: a rugged beach with high waves and character. And we were not disappointed! The power of the ocean, the imposing cliffs, and the desolate feeling made it an impressive experience. Atop the cliff, we could warm up at the cozy bar (Amadobar), which undoubtedly buzzes with surfers and hikers on sunny days. Even on a chilly day, it was a place with atmosphere.

Carrapateira
On the rugged west coast of the Algarve lies Carrapateira, a small surfers' village that is also a crossroads of various hiking trails. The atmosphere is laid-back and the landscape rugged and pure – ideal for those who love nature and simplicity. 🍴 Go for lunch at O Pontal restaurant – simple but tasty, and perfectly located. Fresh fish, grilled vegetables, vongole – simplicity at its best, with a view of the quiet village square. There aren't many sights, but a short climb to the church on top of the hill is worth it: you are rewarded with a beautiful view.

Sagres - the end of Europe
From Carrapateira, we continued south along winding coastal roads with stunning ocean views. Our final destination was Sagres, the southwesternmost point of Europe. At Cabo de São Vicente, we paused for a moment. The high cliffs and the endless Atlantic Ocean are truly impressive. You feel small here, at the end of the continent. We visited the Fort of Sagres. A ticket costs €10 per adult. Inside, you can take a beautiful walk along the rocky coast, with viewpoints over the sea and information about the history of this special place. 🍦 To end the day, we got ice cream from Alice Gelateria in the center of Sagres. Delicious artisanal ice cream – a perfect way to round off the day.
