The impressive Löwenburg Castle was also built by Landgrave Wilhelm IX of Hesse-Kassel. Due to his passion for medieval architecture, he had the palace constructed to resemble a medieval ruin. The castle was heavily damaged during World War II but, after years of restoration, it reopened to the public in 2022. The museum can only be visited with a guided tour.
You don’t necessarily have to visit the interior of the castle – the walk up to it and the view of the castle from the outside are already well worth the effort.
