Watamu

Final stop in Kenya is one to unwind 100%: the paradise-like seaside. Many options to choose from, yet we picked Watamu because of the laid-back atmosphere. Many young people, trendy places and crystal clear waters: sounds good, right?

Stay at Watamu Treehouse

Did you ever stay in a treehouse, high up among the trees and with the ocean right next to you? Well, when traveling to Kenya, you can. Watamu Treehouse is a sustainable, spiritual and very pure accommodation at the seaside. We searched for something away from the crowds (and wanted to avoid classic all-in resorts) and this place was perfect for that. You'll sleep in uniquely designed rooms that are half open, whilst still being protected for mosquitos. Every day you get the chance to join one of the yoga classes on the top floor, or to participate in one of their activities such as SUP boarding in the mangroves or canoeing on/snorkling in the ocean. The perfect location to explore Watamu from! - this trip was made possible in partnership with Brussels Airlines, that offers direct flights from Brussels to Nairobi.

Traditional dhow sailing trip

Hop on a traditional Kenyan sailing boat - a "dhow" - for half a day out on the water. We booked ours through Zuiderhuis (they have the best connections!) and had the best time. In just half an hour we spotted a family of dolphins already! Afterwards, we headed to the coral reef for a snorkling session. Watamu has such a beautiful underwater world, couldn't get enough. 🐠 We ended the tour with a homemade lunch on a small island in the mangroves. Quite some experiences in just a few hours, so would definitely recommend.

A perfect sundowner in Watamu

Kenya is a unique country in Africa, as next to impressive safari parks, you can also head to the seaside for some relax-time. And not just any seaside, the beaches are simply real-life postcards. We chose to stay in Watamu, which has a very laid-back vibe and is home to some stunning sunset spots. One of them is Lichthaus. Looking at the pictures: do I need to say more? Lichthaus has a Mediterranean feel over it with its bohemian interior and hammocks positioned over the ocean. Located perfectly in front of where the sun sets, it's the ultimate spot in Watamu to end your day. Beware: it gets very hot here. Visiting during the day (when the bar falls into the shade) or right after sunset will probably give you a more relaxed experience. - this trip was made possible in partnership with Brussels Airlines, that offers direct flights from Brussels to Nairobi. In just 9 hours, you'll reach paradise!
