Midday

Take a stroll along the old town

We walked into the old town via the Plaza de San Juan de Dios where a temporary exposition of painted skulls were displayed. From here we explored all the highlights in the old city center of this town that has it's roots all the way back to the 11th century BC: The Cathedral, many of the narrow streets in the El Populo neighborhood, the floral square of Plaza de las Flores to arrive at our lunch spot: Mercado Central Cadiz!

Walk from the Plaza de las Flores right into the Mercado Central.

Enjoy the taste of Andalusia at the Mercado Central

We are suckers for food markets! So if we see a Mercado Central with food stands, you may bet we will stop to taste some of the local delicacies. We spent almost 3 hours tasting fried prawns, local cheese, Tinto de Verano, Cadiz wines and many more. Make sure to swing by when your are in Cadiz to grab some delicious lunch.

Sunset riverwalk

From the old town we walked towards the Parque Genovés next to the ocean. We followed the boardwalk all the way down to the Castillo de Santa Catalina where we had some nice views over the beaches. Right next to this fortress we stumbled upon a beach bar where we spent a lovely hour in the sun. Although it was already November, we enjoyed a blue sky +23°C afternoon! When the sun kissed the horizon we continued our sunset walk along the boardwalk all the way back to the Cathedral to end our beautiful day in Cadiz.
