Khao Sok: Jungle stillness and floating bungalows
Khao Sok was a surprise. Deep green jungle, mist-covered mountains, and a lake so still it looked like glass. We did a 3-day, 2-night stay with Smiley Bungalows. The first night we stayed in a dome in Khao Sok village — surrounded by rainforest sounds and thick jungle air. That evening, we joined a night safari in Thailand’s oldest national park, flashlights flickering through the trees as we searched for wildlife. The next day, we headed out to the lake and stayed in floating bungalows. Simple, quiet, with nothing but water and rainforest all around. Mornings were peaceful. We’d paddle out in kayaks or sip coffee on the deck, listening to birds and distant monkey calls. No phones, no plans — just nature, friends, and stillness. Looking back, it was one of the most special stops of the trip.
