Kassel is a medium-sized city in the north of the German state of Hesse, picturesquely situated on the banks of the Fulda River. The city exudes history and culture, and is best known as the place where the Brothers Grimm spent much of their lives. It was here that they worked on their world-famous collection of fairy tales, with the first volume published in Kassel in 1812. Thanks to this legacy, Kassel is often referred to as the ‘Grimm City’.
