Tucked away in the heart of Hasselt, Oishii (which literally means “delicious” in Japanese) lives up to its name!
This is not your average sushi spot. Oishii was the very first sushi restaurant in Limburg, and it’s been going strong for over 10 years. The owners – a passionate Vietnamese couple – pour their heart into every dish, and the walls downstairs are covered in real Vietnamese tiles they shipped over by boat. Yep, by boat.
On warm days, you can eat in their hidden courtyard, or head upstairs for a cozier setting. We chose to sit downstairs to admire the mosaic art while diving into their signature: the Sushi Suprème.
What is that, exactly? It’s a surprise – every time. The chef reinvents it with whatever’s in season or simply inspiring that day. Think kiwi or banana in your roll. Strawberry. Camembert. Foie gras. Caviar. It’s like sushi went to culinary art school and came back bold.
Every bite is a flavour bomb – unexpected, but somehow it all just works. One of the most fun and delicious food experiences we’ve had in Belgium.
