Check-in at boutique hotel San Roque

Tenerife is well-known for having many all-in hotels, yet you can find some nice, smaller boutique hotels too. My tip for you is Hotel San Roque, an 18th century building in the center of Garachico, a tiny village in the South of Tenerife. The hotel building used to be the house of a rich family in the area and is now transformed into a luxury getaway on the island with only 20 rooms. Loved their rooftop terrace.

Discover the cute town Garachico

Staying in the hotel or not, the village of Garachico is worth a visit during your stay in Tenerife. Walk past the cute houses and historical churches here, check out the local market if you're there in the weekend and enjoy the views from the natural pools. That last one is extra peaceful early in the morning, when locals are busy catching fresh fish and you can swim all by yourself.

Lunch with the locals at Santa Ana

In the center of Garachico, have some delicious street food at Santa Ana. Quite a cosy terrace, mostly filled with locals (during the weekend).

Chill out at San Roque

Spend the afternoon chilling by the pool at San Roque. Did you know that it's almost always around 20-25 degrees in Tenerife? Perfect all-year round destination. If you're not staying at the hotel, you can chill out at the natural pools.

You definitely need a rental car in Tenerife, to be able to discover all the gems of the island. Highlight, from your own car: driving up El Teide. Head towards that road from here.

Drive up El Teide

About 2 hours before sunset, drive to vulcano El Teide (count enough time to go up the vulcano, as you'll want to stop many times to capture the view!). On your way, stop at a supermarket to buy dinner for your picknick later. Trust me, no restaurant can beat this!

Sunset picknick

You can drive quite far up El Teide, but we decided to stop at Roques de Garcia to watch the sun set and eat our picknick dinner. Looks just like a huge American national park here! So, so impressive. Little did we know that the best was yet to come ☺️

Cloudy dream sunset

Once the sun was gone, we headed back home to Garachico. On the way down, we saw what you usually only see from an airplance window… We were literally above the clouds and saw the colour palette of our dreams right in front of us. With tears in our eyes, we drove down, back to the real world. One of the best moments in our lives - MUST do when in Tenerife!
