Routeburn Track, New Zealand

Routeburn track πŸ§β€β™‚οΈ

The Routeburn Track is one of New Zealand's Great Walks with a distance of 33 km. The track can be accessed from either the Routeburn Shelter (near Glenorchy) or The Divide (near Te Anau). We parked our car at the Routeburn Shelter and started our trip there. After about 1.5 to 2 hours of walking, we reached Routeburn Falls Hut and the spectacular Routeburn Falls. This is a great spot to take a break, refill your water bottles, and admire the cascading waterfall before continuing on 🐸. From Routeburn Falls, the track starts to climb steadily, eventually leading you above the treeline and offering views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. After approximately another 2 to 3 hours of hiking, we reached the Harris Saddle at 1,255 meters above sea level. The saddle provides panoramic vistas in all directions, including stunning views of Lake Harris below. After all this beauty, we turned and walked the whole way back to the Routeburn Shelter. If we believe our phones, we hiked 37 km with lots of elevation, but it was all worth it! 🀠

Conical Hill

We decided to take the side trip to Conical Hill, because we were feeling adventurous, and the weather was great. Conical Hill offers even more expansive views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. At the summit (1 hour up), with an elevation of approximately 1,517 meters, we were rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama with distant lakes and even sea views πŸ‰.
