Off grid in a cabin in Hedalen
Embrace slow living at your own private lake "Hellsaeren" in the Hedalen region.

How to get there
Getting to central Norway requires some planning. You can take the car and drive up through Denmark and Sweden, you could take an airplane and rent a car, but the most convenient and relaxed option for us was driving to Denmark and then taking the ferry to Oslo. This 10 hour boatride during which you can rent a cabin and sleep comfortably during the night, was a perfect solution to cut down on the driving time and to arrive in Oslo in the early morning. Some providers of these boat tours are DFDS, Color Line and Fjord Line. It is important you book your boat well in advance, since prices can soar a couple of weeks before departure. To give an idea: we booked the boat in october whilst traveling in july. ___ Getting to the off grid cabin in Hedalen is another story. After driving from Oslo to Hedalen, you will have to face some gravel paths. We had to park our car where the road ended, take all our luggage and do a hike of about 1 km to the hut. It sure is remote. An airbnb link to the cabin is added below.

The cabin itself
The off grid cabin is located at lake Hellsaeren. This is your private lake that you can use to its full potential: as a shower, as a water source, as a fishing lake, as a beautiful view from the cabin. The cabin is 27m2 and has no running water and barely has electricity. It does have a stove that you can use if you know how to chop wood. The holiday home has been receiving guests since the 1950s and it hasn't had an update ever since. Be prepared for basic cabin vibes without luxury. You could argue that's part of its charm.
