Oman
MUSCAT
A trip to Oman usually starts in the relaxed capital, Muscat. When you step off the plane, you immediately find yourself in another world. Muscat is an extremely safe city and the perfect place to get to know the country. Due to the many white buildings, Muscat is also known as the 'white city'. You can stroll leisurely along the boulevard or through the souks, but the absolute highlight is undoubtedly a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.

Muttrah Corniche
Muttrah is the historic part of Muscat and has a long and lively boulevard called Muttrah Corniche. At the end of the boulevard is the port, where very expensive ships are often docked. From the parking lot by the fish market, you have a beautiful view of the entire boulevard, the white buildings, and the mosque with the mountains behind it during sunset. Walking along the Muttrah Corniche is one of the nicest things to do in Muscat when the sun goes down.

Muttrah souk
On the boulevard, you will also find the entrance to the Muttrah souks. This is a maze of alleys with all kinds of small shops selling lamps, jewelry, spices, and clothing. Most shops only open after 4:00 PM, so make sure to go after that time. If you want to score a souvenir, negotiating the price is very common.

Muttrah Fort
For a panoramic view of Muttrah, the harbor, and the mountains, it is a must to climb Muttrah Fort. For 3 OMR, you can climb the tower and be rewarded with a beautiful view.

Al Mirani Fort
At the end of the boulevard stands Al Mirani Fort. This fort was built by the Portuguese during their occupation in 1580 to effectively defend the harbor. From Al Mirani Fort, you have a beautiful view of the harbor, Muttrah, and the mountains.

Al Alam Palace
The ceremonial palace of the Sultan of Oman.
