Arriving in Cancun
Let's start off with a major tip to travel to Mexico from Belgium. I always book my flights with Tuifly from Brussels. I know it's a lot to ask, but if you can try to book your ticket last minute. I always buy one ways about a week upfront and I never paid more then 350 euro one way. The min price for a ticket is 199 euro, so if you see that, you can be sure to book because it will not get lower than that. What a LIFE-HACK he? If you travel from other countries you can keep an overview in Skyscanner to find the cheapest tickets.
Get to Isla Mujeres from the airport
After arrival you could either rent a car (I had a really good experience with 'Localiza') or take the bus (ADO). You drive to Punta Sam, the port of Cancun where the ferries to Isla Mujeres go from. The ferry to Isla Mujeres is already an experience on itself, the 30 min to 1h cross over is the perfect start of your holiday to see your first bit of Mexico's beauty. Travel tip: Make sure you claim a spot on the open roof of the boat, to enjoy the extreem blue water and the coastline of Cancun.
