This easy mountain hike in the mountaineering village of Ramsau , from Hintersee via the Schärenalm, is the shortest ascent to the Blaueishütte, located in the lower Blaueiskar. The Blaueisgletscher, the northernmost glacier in the Alps, is just a short walk from the hut.
The path starts with a relatively steady incline through the forest above Hintersee. After, the trail becomes noticeably steeper. Tight switchbacks lead to a clearing below the Schärtenalm (1,362 m). From the Schärtenalm, the trail continues flat around a rocky corner to the so-called Blaueisbankl, then over a bridge along a rock face to the valley station of the cable car. Here, the steep path branches off to the left into the Blaueiskar cirque, and the mountain hike continues in switchbacks below the rock faces of Steinberg and Schärtenspitze to the Blaueishüttte.
