Visiting Isla Holbox in Mexico? Make sure Punta Mosquito is on your list! This gorgeous white sandbar is best explored during low tide, which allows you to walk along the sandbank and enjoy its peaceful surroundings. It’s easily one of the most beautiful spots on Holbox and a fantastic place to catch a glimpse of flamingos in their natural habitat! And if you’re extra lucky that the sunrise coincides with low-tide, you might even see the most spectacular sunrise you’ve ever seen 😉
Getting to Punta Mosquito involves a 30-minute walk from the center of Holbox, with another 30 minutes if you want to explore the entire sandbank. You can also try kayaking here for a fun and unique experience. We saw a lot of people doing it (even at 6 AM!) and it actually looked like great fun.
There’s no entrance fee to visit Punta Mosquito, but keep in mind there’s no shade either. Don’t forget to bring a hat, water, sunglasses, and sunscreen, especially if you’re visiting during the day. We went early in the morning, and it was absolutely perfect. The sun wasn’t too intense, and the place was wonderfully quiet. Punta Mosquito is definitely a must-see highlight of Isla Holbox!
