Street art & cocktails

Our first day in George Town kicked off with the perfect mix of art and relaxation. As soon as we arrived, we set out to explore the city’s famous street art, wandering through colorful alleys and spotting murals hidden around every corner. The creative energy of the city was contagious, and after our little urban adventure, we treated ourselves to a refreshing cocktail, the perfect way to toast the start of our Penang experience.

Breakfast @ Chubby Cafe Penang

We had breakfast twice at Chubby Café in Penang, conveniently located just steps from our hotel, Citadines Connect Cecil Georgetown Penang (also highly recommended!). The café has a beautiful, cozy atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed start to the day. Their granola bowl was a highlight, fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious.

Chasing murals in George Town

Exploring George Town feels like stepping into an open-air gallery. On our very first day, we joined a self-guided street art tour that led us through winding alleys and colorful side streets, where every corner held a surprise. From playful children on swings to whimsical cats and bicycles frozen in time, the murals seemed to tell little stories about the city’s character and charm. Following the online tour map was a fun adventure in itself, like a treasure hunt for art. Some murals were bold and easy to spot, while others were hidden behind parked scooters or tucked into narrow lanes, making each discovery even more exciting.

Cocktail o’clock

As the sun began to set over Penang, we headed up to the Sphere Rooftop Bar, the perfect spot to watch the city wind down from above. With panoramic views stretching over George Town’s rooftops and the evening sky slowly turning gold and pink, the setting couldn’t have been more magical. Our cocktails arrived looking like little works of art, vibrant and colorful, and they tasted just as good as they looked. Paired with a small bite to eat, it was the ideal way to unwind after a day of exploring. Sitting back with the sunset in the background, a delicious drink in hand, and the soft city buzz below us, we couldn’t help but feel that this was the ultimate chill-out spot in George Town.
