Visit Gjirokaster Castle

The first stop is Gjirokaster Castle. Albania has a lot of castles, but this one was our favorite. It’s one of the largest in the Balkans and a must-see when you’re in town. Walk through the clock tower, see the old American Air Force plane, visit the Bektashi tomb, and take in the panoramic views over the city. Inside, you’ll find old weapons, dark prison cells, and underground tunnels. Such a cool place! Entrance costs 400 LEK (€ 4).

Stroll through the Old Bazaar

Next, head to the Old Bazaar, a small but very charming part of the city. It’s great for souvenir shopping, or just walking around the cobbled streets. Even if you’re not looking to buy anything, it’s worth a visit. You’ll also find plenty of cafés and restaurants to relax and watch the world go by.

Dinner at Snack Bar Simple

Right in the Old Bazaar is Snack Bar Simple, a great spot for affordable local food. It has a relaxed vibe and outdoor seating. We tried the stuffed eggplants and byrek, and both were delicious. We only paid € 10 for dinner, which made it even better. 😉
